Accident Avoidance

During extreme steering maneuvers the Electronic Stability Controlen_always_drive_carefully (ESC) system helps maintain control by sensing when the vehicle is starting to over - or understeer.

The system automatically applies individual brakes or controls the throttle to help you stay safely on course. When you don't want the extra hand, ESC is specially tuned for performance handling so you can switch it off.

Just how much does ESC help Patriot keep you safe and secure? So much so, that the 2010 Patriot with optional side torso airbags has been awarded the Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This important award is handed out to vehicles that rate very good in front, side, rear, and now rollover crashes. So now you can travel with peace of mind knowing you've got the IIHS to back you up.

Patriot's four-wheel Antilock Brake System (ABS) includes brake assist and all-speed traction control to help you maintain vehicle control during emergency braking. Special off-road calibration provides sustained lockup on surfaces like mud or gravel for improved braking, and aid in trail driving when in four-wheel-drive Off-Road mode.

Anticipating the need for additional traction, Patriot's four-wheel drive system automatically responds to wheel slippage by transferring power equally to both the front and rear wheels, improving vehicle stability.

    Hill Descent Control

Hill Descent Control with grade sensing allows a smooth and controlled hill descent on rough or slippery terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. This system applies the brakes to each wheel individually when needed to reduce forward motion while negotiating down steep grades.
