The 3.7L V6 engine has many features that help improve economy, including: 9.6:1 compression ratio, 58-psi fuel injector system and "thick" wall composite low-restriction intake manifold.
The 4.7L Flex Fuel Vehicle (FFV) V8 engine has many features like the 5.7L HEMI® V8 for improved power and economy including: two spark plugs per cylinder, 9.8:1 compression ratio, and better port flow, The engine features a slant / squish combustion system design.
The 5.7L HEMI® engine, with its unique and economical Multi-Displacement System (MDS), provides power and excellent mpg.
The 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine features the economical Multi-Displacement System (MDS), which deactivates four cylinders when eight are not needed. When cruising at highway speeds between 40 and 60 mph, MDS uses advanced computer technology and electronic throttle control to transform the HEMI® V8 seamlessly from V8 power to an efficient four-cylinder powerplant in 0.04 seconds. See MDS in Action.
Chrysler estimates that since its inception of MDS in 2005, nearly 100 million gallons of gasoline have been saved, along with reduced carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions of close to a million metric tons.

- Driving Range

Commander can tour up to 337 miles on a tank full of gas when properly equipped[4].
- Green Story

Paints, adhesives and plastics often contain considerable quantities of solvents. Unhappy with emission levels, the engineers and paint specialists at Commander’s Assembly Plant set about devising methods of eliminating solvents.
The outcome is a dramatic reduction in emissions and an overall reduced impact on the environment. The Jeep® Commander’s manufacturing plant is super green thanks to the use of chrome-free phosphate, a lead-free E-coat process, a powder coating prime coat and a waterborne basecoat. The assembly plant is continuing the company's efforts to push powder coating and other technologies to higher levels of quality, performance and environmental friendliness.
- Aerodynamics / Wind Tunnel

Commander was extensively tested in Chrysler’s state-of-the-art Aero-Acoustic Wind Tunnel for maximum slipperiness. The steeply raked front windshield, roof racks, side mirrors and other key elements were sculpted to reduce drag and wind noise.
In addition, hundreds of sound-dampening elements were integrated into Commander’s sleek design to reduce noise, vibration and harshness.
